May Vereen Morris

In loving memory of May Vereen Morris John, 90, of Malad, Idaho and former Portage resident who died Sunday, March 13, 1994 at the Bountiful Nursing Home, Bountiful, Utah of complications resulting from pneumonia.

She was born May 31, 1903, in Portage, Utah, to David William and Susannah Green Morris, one of 10 children. She married Thomas Asael John, October 19, 1921, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died January 16, 1976. They farmed in Portage, North Washakie, Woodruff and Cherry Creek during their married life.She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served as president and counselor in the Relief Society, as a counselor in the Primary, as a Young Women teacher, and as president of the ward choir.

She had a beautiful singing voice and used it to bless the lives of friends and relatives throughout her life. She participated with several singing groups, and also enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and her family.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters and their spouses: Asael Mardell and Betty John, Clinton; Dennis and Myra Jean John, Malad, Idaho; Lynn Morris and Betty Mae John, Layton; Meda and Robert Sharp, Bountiful; Vona Mae and Levi L. Dunn, Murray; Darlene and Loyde Porter, Lakewood, Colo.; one brother and one sister, Joseph Cloyd Morris, Portage; and Lavona Utita Lamb, Plymouth; 24 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday, March 18, 1994 from 6-8 p.m. at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, and one hour prior to services Saturday in Portage Ward with son-in-law Lowell Dunn conducting. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 19, at 12 noon in the Portage Ward. Interment will be in the Portage Cemetery.
